UHCA Meeting and Stadium Development Updates – Dec 1st, 2014

The University Heights Community Association announces that a special meeting of the University Heights community will be held on Dec. 4th, starting at 7 p.m. at the Foothills Mennonite Church. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the Western Securities’ Final Master Plan for redevelopment of the Stadium Shopping Centre, the disposition of the Municipal Land Reserve in University Heights and related issues.

  1. Traffic
  2. Administration Recommendation
  3. Value of the subject property ($210,000 sale of .84 acres by the City)

Dec 8th Council Meeting Submission – The City of Calgary is a vibrant and rapidly growing city that needs to develop and densify to ensure sustainability. This principle is very important to the supporters of this submission. However, sustainability requires a thorough and considered decision making process incorporating complex variables . The six communities who communicated with the Calgary Planning Commission on October, 20, 2014 do not understand why it is necessary to sell this land now when several elements of the NW transportation infrastructure plan are incomplete. This lack of information may well impede the understanding the City and the communities have of the full impact of all of the proposed developments on transportation issues in this part of NW Calgary.

The six communities who oppose the sale of the Municipal Reserve Land located at 16th Ave and Uxbridge Dr. are: University Heights, St Andrews Heights, Parkdale, Banff-Trail, Briar Hill-Hounsfield Heights and Valley Ridge. We believe the following significant transportation studies should be completed before the City is in a position to assess the full impact of the land sale on 16th Avenue….
