Dear Friends and Residents,

We have have been asked by a number of communities across Calgary to distribute information regarding the development of Paskapoo Slopes. The issue is expected to be voted on in an upcoming City Council meeting on July 20th, 2015.

The city of Calgary has created a website for this large development proposal and can be found here: http://www.calgary.ca/engage/Pages/Trinity-Paskapoo.aspx

An alternate proposal exists which proposes a Paskapoo Conservation and Recreation Corridor connecting Canada Olympic Park on the west and a possible Flames City (West Village) on the east; as opposed to the development application before Council for rezoning. The proposal is attached below.

Also, an online petition which has well over 8500 signatures has been created. It can be found here: www.savetheslopes.org

Since this is a very large development, we have decided to distribute this email to our residents on an information only basis without taking a position.

The two attachments have been provided by Communities First.

Recently CPAWS SAB (Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Southern Alberta Branch) published a statement on their website, and submitted a letter to the City Clerk for the July 20 Public Hearing, in regards to developing East Paskapoo Slopes. Here is the link: http://cpaws-southernalberta.org/news/paskapoo-slopes-information-sessions If you click on the phrase “Click here to read our full comments”, at the bottom of the paragraph, you will get to their submission letter.

In short, “CPAWS SAB is concerned that the current plan for the East Paskapoo Slopes does not comply with the important land-use planning principles and commitments by the City of Calgary to conserve urban natural areas and biodiversity.”
