Parking Lot coming to West Campus by the Duck Pond

NOTICE OF PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE

Temporary Parking for Alberta Health Services on University District Lands Held by West Campus Development Trust and Alberta Health Services

Date: Thursday, January 14, 2016
Location: Foothills Mennonite Church (2115 Urbana Road NW)
Time: 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm drop in

We strongly urge residents and all concerned citizens to attend an open house detailing the installation of 1200 temporary parking stalls for Alberta Health Services on University District lands located just west of the community of University Heights, and south of the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

Please see enclosed letter from the West Campus Development Trust for more details.

The temporary parking is needed to support the reconstruction of the main parkade at Foothills Medical Centre. The timing is urgent in order to meet the Calgary Cancer Centre start date of September 2017.

There will be representatives from Alberta Health Services, the Calgary Cancer Centre Project, and West Campus Development Trust on hand to answer questions.

Because the south lands of University District are not currently zoned for commercial parking, two applications to the City of Calgary are required:

An application for land use amendment made by the West Campus Development Trust.
A development permit application for 1200 temporary parking stalls made by Alberta Health Services for a limited period of 3 years.

Issues of concern resulting from the installation of the parking lot include:

Noise, dust and light pollution during and after construction
Proximity of lot to community homes and visual screening
Security
Traffic issues including cut through traffic, speed mitigation and signage
Pedestrian walkways and shuttle bus schedule and location

Please see enclosed letter from the West Campus Development Trust for more details.
